Your self-motivation ignition switch is crucial to getting you started on, and continuing moving forward towards your goals. Is your switch lost? How do you engage and take action towards your goals when you lack motivation?
“A successful person realizes his personal responsibility for self-motivation. He starts with himself because he possesses the key to his own ignition switch.”
Kemmons Wilson, Founder of Holiday Inn Hotels
The most successful thing you can do in your life is to take action. Any action is a good start, even if you are unsure of where you are heading.
Many people say to me ‘I don’t know what my goals are. I don’t have any dreams. I don’t know what to do with my life.’
Well, rather than just drift along in the sea of mediocrity, start finding out what to do with your life.
This takes action, focus and commitment. And a mountain of courage. Because learning about yourself and what your dreams are is one of the most challenging things you can do in life. It is also one of the most rewarding.
Only thirty percent of people have what it takes to define their dreams and set life transforming goals. And less than fifteen percent have the self-motivation to succeed at achieving those goals.
Will you be one of the fifteen percent?
When I started writing in cafes, I was turning the key to my own ignition switch. I didn’t know where it would lead at first. It was just something I wanted to do as part of my journey to success. That writing, you could say, was my journal of the journey.
Ten years later, some of my Cafe Reflections™ turned into a book. And then more books followed. Most importantly, writing my goals in my journal in the first place helped me to take personal responsibility for my dreams, my goals and my success.
Take some time today to sit down with a notebook and pen and have a Q&A session with yourself.
Ask yourself what excites you? What activities do you do where you lose track of time? What do you really enjoy immersing yourself in?
Keep asking until you can clearly identify what is the key to your self-motivation ignition switch. It might take you hours, days, weeks or even months. As long as you keep asking, the answers will come.
